Gone Fishin'

The family went fishing last night and it was a good time. We went with Jenni's parents Dave and Debbie. Most of the evening we caught these big bluegill, but the excitement started when Jonathon reeled in his first solo fish. It all started when Kayla and Grandpa Dave caught one of the many bluegill out of this little farm pond, while Dave was putting Kayla's fish on the stringer Jonathon shouts, "I got a fish, Grandpa." Jenni and I were across the pond and noticed that his bobber had disappeared under the water and encouraged Jonathon to reel it in. His answer to that was a prompt, "I'm trying!" and he was. His little arms were winding the reel as hard as he could and he wasn't making much progress. I shouted over to Dave that he might want to help, but he let Jonathon do it and we kept encouraging Jonathon to "stand up" and "pick the tip up" and he answered with "I can't" and "I'm trying". Well finally, Dave looks up at us and shouts, "You should see this fish!" And soon after that, we did and it was huge, Jonathon had hooked a large mouth bass that many folks would be proud of and he pulled it in all by himself.

We caught a good mess of fish, most of those coming from Jenni and Jonathon. I'm sure this is the first of many fish stories this summer.
